AMATEUR RADIO EQUIPMENTS

The 20th century had been the history of radio communications and many amateur operators played an important role in the process of its development on the whole spectrum of the radio waves. When considering that the home-brewing is disappeared now by the rich supply of commercial gears, tweaking the antenna to match the environments is one of a few remaining enjoyments.

One of the most familiar Ham instruments for the antenna and coaxial cable work is the dip meter. We are now producing the "Digital Dip Meters" as shown above. The increased accuracy of the frequency by digital display instead of the scaled dial improved the utility of this unique instruments.

The "Antenna Analyzer AZ1-HF" shown above is a small signal RF bridge to tune the antenna by measuring the antenna impedance such as the resistive component R and the reactive component X of an antenna fed by the coaxial cable. The frequency range covers from 1.5MHz to 145MHz, equipped with battery, RF generator and frequency counter. Since the admittance bridge is adopted, some conversions are required to obtain series impedance such as R ± jX.

The most useful instrument to evaluate the RF coils is the Q meter. As everyone knows, the quality factor Q is inversely proportional to its resistance R that increases suddenly at high frequency where the coil is intended to work. An inexpensive L meters which test coils at 1kHz or so are powerless for RF coils. Compact and slim "Q meter 651" up to 50MHz (upper front) and "Q meter 661" up to 100MHz (upper rear) are the new generations of their bulky and hefty ancestors.
